The Reader Berlin Καλοκαίρι 2018 Retreat Εκφραστικής Γραφής

June 14th–20th/20th – 26th
Pelion, Greece

Welcome to the mountain of Pelion – home of quaint villages, deserted beaches, the centaurs of Greek myth…and The Reader’s 2018 writing retreat!

This year, we’ll be heading to the hilltop village of Pinakates for two weeks of intensive writing practice in the midst of an inspirational landscape. We’re taking over a gorgeous family-run guesthouse with two experienced tutors on hand to guide you: expressive-writing expert and Pelion native Dimitra Didangelou and the ever-popular Jane Flett, who’s taking a break from her sold-out Berlin courses to bring her teaching to warmer climes…

Week 1 (June 14th – 20th) is for those looking for some rigorous writing instruction to kickstart or restart their practice. With daily workshops, regular scheduled writing sessions and one-to-one mentoring, you’ll leave Greece with a notebook stuffed with new ideas and a new sense of direction in your writing.

Week 2 (June 20th – 26th) is ideal for those already at work on a project, and looking for the time and motivation to dedicate to it fully. You’ll benefit from one-to-one mentoring and the encouragement of your fellow writers in our writing sessions, but your time generally will be looser for you to schedule as you see fit—and finally finish those stories!

Or some of you might decide that seven days just isn’t long enough, in which case we invite you to join us for the full fortnight. There’ll be plenty to fill your time, including extra activities such as yoga, massage, hiking, horse riding, and trips to the beach.

JANE FLETT ( has been published in over 70 literary journals and translated into Polish, Croatian and Japanese. Her poetry features in the Best British Poetry anthology and her fiction has been commissioned for BBC Radio 4. She was also voted Berlin’s best English-language writer in 2015 by Indieberlin. Jane has recently been awarded residencies in New Orleans, Croatia, and the Spanish mountains, and thinks that everyone should get out of Berlin to write now and again.

DIMITRA DIDANGELOU ( is a psychologist, science journalist and author who aims to help people gain insight and bring balance into their lives through expressive writing. Alongside founding and editing a web-magazine that explores psychology, she is the founder of “Empower your Psyche”, an Institute which offers workshops promoting conscious living. Her training includes Advanced Study in Therapeutic Writing (The Center for Journal Writing in Denver, CO, USA), an MSc in Psychology and the Mass Media, a BA in Psychology and a Certificate in Philosophical Counseling and Psychotherapy. Dimitra is a published novelist and author of many short stories.
